I-City, Shah Alam : City of Digital Lights

Mum and I were supposed to be heading back home after hours of shopping at Ikea, but since we felt adventurous, we went for a detour to I- City Shah Alam, took us around an hour to reach from Ikea using the trusty Waze app. If you havent heard about I-City before, try checking out their website here. They have an array of attractions City of Digital Lights, Red Carpet (similar to a wax museum), Trick Art Museum - RM 10 per entry, Snow Walk and Waterworld. Tickets can also be purchased online at this website. Only the City of Digital Lights has free entrance, while the other attractions has an entry fee, which is cheaper for Mykad holder, and cheaper before 6pm.
Among all the highlights, City of Digital Lights was the only one we went for due to limited time and depletion of energy. It is said that there are over 1 million LED lights lighting the whole place. The digital lights display starts around 6pm or when it begins to get dark. Although there's free entrance, the car parking fee after 6pm is a flat rate of  Rm10, If parked before 6pm, they charge per hour, not too sure if they add rm 10 to the hourly charge though (if u stay after 6pm), as we were there only at around 10pm. The place closes at 1am.

There are also other games offered in i-city, the bumper car, ferris wheel, flying chairs, arcade games, merry-go-round, spacewalk and many more. We paid RM 20 for the spacewalk, which was a cable car that took us around the City of Digital Lights. We were also given a card that can be topped-up to use for the other games. The cable car, has many features to it, the steering wheel allows u to turn the whole cable car a 180 degree angle, horizontally of course :). Paddling around the course can also be a form of exercise but not needed for the cable car to move. There are buttons, which we didn't explore, as it looked abit odd.

Ken Well Seafood Restaurant - Yee Sang

While driving around Cheras Batu 11 with an aim to fill our tummies and also have a 'lou sang' experience, we found Ken Well Seafood Restaurant. Judging from the packed restaurant, we were convinced the food was good and it most definitely was! 

We ordered a Lou Sang/Yee Sang dish, Ginger Garlic Lala dish, Nyonya sauce fish slices and Kangkung belacan. They introduced their crab dish (seems its really good), too bad i'm allergic, it looked finger licking good on the table beside us. :)

Lou Sang is normally a must-have during the Lunar new year. Based on Minty's kitchen, On the 7th day of Chinese New Year is a common birthday for everyone, and on this day is when the yee sang is eaten. I just found out.. 

Every ingredient placed on the plate has a meaning, like the carrot symbolizes good luck, the white radish symbolizes prosperity, salmon symbolizes abundance, lime symbolizes luck and auspicious value, green radish symbolizes eternal youth, sprinkled pepper symbolizes more wealth and valuables. Well, if you thought i became a sifu in chinese dishes, well think again. :) I just read about it here, and thought it was an interesting share. :)

Once all the components of the yee sang are on the plate, its time to mix! the higher the toss, the better! While mixing, we all said our wishes and dreams, hoping it would come through.

About the other dishes, the lala dish was delicious, the lala was bigger than usual, thus the meat was juicy and springy, compared to the smaller ones. The nyonya fish slices could have been more spicy and sourish, then it would have been perfect. As for the kangkung belacan, it was good, difficult to get it wrong. :)

Calanthe Art Cafe & Jonker 88, Melaka

I wasa one day tourist at Jonker Street, Melaka with the help of our trusty tourguide :) . I have never been to Jonker Street in broad daylight before, but have always been there when the moon is watching. sounds vampire-ish. The mini tour consisted of Calanthe Art Cafe, Jonker 88, Souvinear stalls and Dataran Pahlawan. Despite the unforgiving brutal sun, we braved through it, as Jonker street market has been rumoured to be closing, hopefully not. :)

Our targeted destination was the Baboon Cafe, but since it was closed for the Chinese New Year Celebration, we quickly changed to another cafe called the Calanthe Art Cafe. This cafe is famous for their coffees that are named after the states of Malaysia, and may also be the best coffee from each states. I almost never drink coffee (i'm starting to like it though, i got to try a sip of the Selangor coffee, it was pretty good) I ordered a brownie dish and a mango smoothie instead. Both dishes were critic-less. Definitely, try their coffee if visiting.  

The cafe is decorated with quirky art works, that really can attract the eyes when boredom strikes.

We also gave the Jonker 88 stall a try. Lucky us, the queue wasn't that long when we reached. The place is a little cramped up. Has those old chinese coffee shop apek feel. Waiting for seats can be a frustrating ordeal but after seated, it is all worth it.:) Since the stall is located near tourist attractions price of the food ranges from Rm 6.50-Rm7.50 a bowl, we ordered asam laksa and also curry laksa. I was really happy with the taste of both broth, authentic yummy goodness. Asam laksa was a tad bit spicy than usual, good thing i love spicy. 

The shop also has various deserts, we ate the famous cendol which not only looked good, it tasted good as well!

Chinese New Year 2014

Thank God for this Chinese New Year back with family and friends :) This new year reminded me of my classmates, and how they tried to make the best new year ever for the past years by cooking and eating together, watching horror movies (which i strongly protested against), laughing, giggling, teasing and dancing crazily. Thinking of it makes me smile gleefully. :)

Instead this year, i got to meet up with all my relatives! nearly all :) My dad and mum's family are huge as both of them have more than 10 siblings each.. imagine that! I can't keep track of my nieces and nephews anymore. All of them have grown and the numbers are increasing. Well, the more the merrier! :)
Not to forget, meeting up with old friends and new ones made this year full of huatness (prosperity).  It can't get any better than this, or can it?

Splash Run 2014

Splash 5km run! The Splash Run organized by Segi College is similar to a Color Run. So have you heard of a Color Run before? Check out their awesome video :D

The event started at 7am, bright and early but we reached at 6am to get the stall ready and also register :). Upon registration, we were given a sponsored t-shirt and a number, 0009 was mine. :) There was a lion dance performance which marked the opening of the event. They even had a Zumba warm up session. Then, the splashing starts and also the 5km run! run splash! The event was sponsored by Gatorade, Snogurt and Zumba Zesty ( buy zumba wear online). 

At the end of the run, we were given free Snogurt aka Frozen yogurt which was just what we needed,  a goodie bag and also a certificate. hurray! The event ended with performances by Inti's choir group, Zumba cooling down session and also prize giving ceremony. Prizes were given out for the 1st -10th place runners which were all men and also the runner with the cleanest tshirt :) Tadaaaaaa..

China House Penang

A good place to stop by in the hot scorching Penang weather is China House! Located on both Lebuh Pantai and Lebuh Victoria , it has 2 entrances.:) China House was our getaway from the brutal sun, the relaxing ambience, smell of freshly baked goodies and instant chill of cool air, made us feel cozy. :)

The cafe is also an art gallery on the second floor.

We were spoilt for choice in this cafe. Their menu not only consisted of deserts, they have appetizers and main menu too, but we were too exhausted to think of food. I had a salted caramel ice cream (RM9), which came slightly melted, but i gulped it down. :) The cake was really good too. Too bad wasn't in the mood to try the other cakes. Will have to give the cafe another try the next time i head to Penang :)
